Amsterdam desserts… Can you feel the bad jokes brewing? I refuse to lower myself to such low comedic depths and make such an obvious marijuana-munchies joke. But this is where we discuss one of the finer points of eating out in Amsterdam, and Europe in general: dessert time. So, if you have any jokes you’d like to tell yourself in lieu of my refusal, then now is the time.
Done? Okay, great. Here’s a quick guide to Amsterdam desserts. Let’s take a look at three places in Amsterdam sure to satisfy your sweet tooth.
De Laatste Kruimel
De Laatste Kruimel is famous for its cakes and pies. You’ll want to sit down with a coffee and enjoy your treats because this place is downright adorable. Try their raspberry cheesecake or, my favorite, the zucchini cake with homemade lemon curd. Loyal local patrons cannot seem to get enough of their apple pie.
Hours: Daily from 8AM to 8PM
Location: Langebrugsteeg 4, 1012 GB Amsterdam, De Wallen, Centrum

Metropolitan
Metropolitan specializes in homemade ice cream, gelato and pastries, using fresh dairy milk gathered from across the Netherlands. Sourcing only the very best ingredients, Metropolitan produces a variety of flavors of ice cream and gelato. For example, this shop gets some of their milk from dairy cows on a farm just outside Amsterdam. You can’t get any fresher than that.
You’ll also find high-quality truffles, chocolate pastries and many other delicious baked goods, using cacao sourced from the Dominican Republic. Only the best at Metropolitan. They also serve a wide variety of espresso-based beverages in a hospital-white environment. And if you just can’t get enough, bring some chocolates and pastries onto your next European stop or back home with you. They will pack up your treats to go.
Hours: Daily 9AM to 10PM
Location: Warmoesstraat 135, 1012 JB AMSTERDAM
Winkel 43
Winkel 43 is an Amsterdam classic. Simply put, their apple pie is legendary. You’ll find artfully arranged slices all over Instagram. People can’t get enough of it and it’s easy to see why. When you order your slice of apple pie, make sure you get a house-made cappuccino, too. Enjoy the warm, spicy, apple pie topped with freshly whipped cream. There isn’t a better combination around and this pie isn’t to be missed. Winkel 43 is particularly adored for its late-night hours, open until 1AM on weekdays and until 3AM on weekends. The shop is a bit small inside but you can take your slice of pie to their patio.
Hours: 7AM/8AM to 1AM/3AM
Location: Noordermarkt 43, 1015 NA Amsterdam
