In recent years, Trastevere has become one of the hottest foodie districts in Rome. If not all of Europe. Indeed, the restaurants in this area are so popular that it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find decent values. Or even a table. There are, however, a few exceptional Trastevere trattorie that have yet to be discovered by the tourist hordes. One such establishment is Mr. Clood on Via Luciano Manara. This family-run restaurant specializes in fresh seasonal pasta dishes and has a continuously rotating menu.
Italian or American? You Choose
Mr. Clood brands itself as a “laboratorio di pasta fresca” (English: “fresh pasta workshop”). So, you’d better believe this restaurant offers many fantastic handmade pasta meals. A few of the most popular pasta dishes include gnocchi in tomato sauce, straccetti with radishes over pasta and pasta with shrimp, zucchini and tomatoes. Mr. Clood also prides itself on serving a great variety of fresh seafood. A few fabulous fishy finds here include spaghetti with clams, salmon on a bed of arugula and sea bass with roasted potatoes. And my mouth is now officially watering.

But it isn’t all about Italian cooking at Mr. Clood. Believe it or not, Mr. Clood offers many standard American diner dishes. The most obvious of these menu options is the “American breakfast,” which comes with eggs, toast and ham. For dinner, consider giving Mr. Clood’s take on the classic hamburger or beefsteak a try. Hey, who says you have to eat like the Romans while in Rome?
As mentioned above, Mr. Clood’s menu changes with the seasons. Therefore, always check the restaurant’s chalkboard before ordering.
