1. Düsseldorf International Airport (code: DUS)
The first option for cheap airports near Amsterdam is Düsseldorf International. Amsterdam flights from North America can be particularly pricey, but DUS offers North American visitors a good chance at saving some serious cash. A direct train line will take you from the airport to Amsterdam’s Centraal Station for as low as €19 each way. Make sure you book your rail tickets in advance and check for promotional fares to make this Amsterdam flights alternative as cost-effective as possible.
2. Brussels International (code: BRU)
Another option if you’re looking to avoid costly flights to Amsterdam is to fly into Brussels International. This airport used to require travelers to take one train from the airport into Brussels and then another railway to Amsterdam but since has made Amsterdam travel easier with a direct train from BRU to Amsterdam costing only about €39 each way.
3. Rotterdam Airport (code: RTM)
A third, cost-effective option for flying to Amsterdam is Rotterdam. This airport has a high-speed rail connection straight to Amsterdam that only takes about 40 minutes. This is the most convenient of the Schiphol Airport alternatives.
4. Eindhoven Airport (code: EIN)
The final cheap airport near Amsterdam is Eindhoven, the second-largest airport in the Netherlands. To get from this airport to Amsterdam, you’ll have to take either a bus from the airport to the rail line and then a train to Amsterdam or take a ninety minute ride on the AirExpressBus to go all the way to Amsterdam. The AirExpressBus costs about €25 each way.
Whatever your financial situation, there is a way to fly to Amsterdam economically. In addition to searching Schiphol Airport alternatives, always hunt bargain Scandinavian carriers like IcelandAir, WOW Air and Norwegian.
